Definition and terminology
Lu, Quan, Ke and Ji receive associations with benefit, authority, reputation and constraint, though modern vocabulary varies. The first three are not automatically favorable in every context, nor Ji invariably disastrous. Transformation marks a relation under a rule: identify the target star, palace and generating stem before interpreting it.
Structure and rules
A stem table lists four target stars for each of ten stems. Sources may be natal year, decadal or annual stems, and some methods also use palace stems. Tables have variants. Preserve provenance when several layers annotate the same star rather than merging all transformations into one unlabeled collection.
Worked reading
One commonly used Jia table assigns Lu to Lianzhen, Quan to Pojun, Ke to Wuqu and Ji to Taiyang. A teaching diagram writes each label beside its target star and records Jia as source. This demonstrates lookup and annotation, not inevitable adverse events. Confirm the adopted table before constructing an actual chart.
Context and limits
Historical texts contain the transformation vocabulary, while modern palace-stem methods add further theory. Do not attribute all modern procedures directly to one classic or treat arrows as established real-world causation. State the table version and temporal source. Checking consistency verifies the annotation rules, not their claims about destiny.
