Definition and details
The dictionary defines divination from character structure, also encountered as splitting or assessing characters. Practice can use components, added strokes, sound or meaning in relation to a question. It is not literacy instruction or a fixed predictive value for every character; record the written form and interpretive steps to trace the move into narrative.
Structure and history
Stories and novels depict skilled character interpreters and sometimes criticize strained readings. Chapter thirty-six of the late-Qing novel Twenty Years of Strange Experiences provides literary evidence of recognizable consultation and discussion. A successful coincidence in a story is not event statistics, and a famous practitioner’s legend cannot establish every technique’s origin.
A concrete example
For a non-predictive exercise, use the visible sun and moon components of ming for an association, then ask how palaeography checks earlier forms. A story about brightness and historical etymology need different evidence. If a stroke change permits an opposite reading, record that flexibility instead of selecting the cleverest explanation as proof of determination.
Context and limits
Study wordplay, consultation and association without judging morality, ability, health or destiny from writing or names. Simplified, traditional, variant and handwritten forms can change decomposition, so preserve the actual graph. An inventive story can have literary value without reliable forecasting, and genuine etymology does not infer a person’s hidden fate from coincidence.
