- Distinguish mansion, luminary and weekday fields.
Definition and details
Mansion and luminary are distinct components: one concerns lunar divisions, the other the traditional seven bodies and weekday usage. Natal mansion, weekday and electional passage are not interchangeable fields. The long title naming Mañjuśrī and auspicious or inauspicious times establishes a Buddhist textual setting that modern shorthand should not conceal.
Structure and history
NDL records scripture witnesses, lectures and diagram explanations, showing distinct textual and interpretive circulation. The date of a reduced-format modern printing is not the translation date and does not establish that it contains every modern compatibility table. Study titles, translator attributions and notes, using separate evidence for precise transmission events.
A concrete example
Compare a scripture catalog record with the seven weekday names in an almanac. The record identifies a text; weekday labels identify time. Adding a natal-mansion table requires its calendar and correspondence rule, since Tuesday is not itself a natal mansion. This separates title, date field and interpretation before a beginner attempts comparison.
Context and limits
Religious use, calendar vocabulary and modern astrological reception have different scopes. Study timing and symbolism without judging personality, ability or relationships by a mansion. Compare Chinese and Indian systems through counts, boundaries and calculations rather than shared names, and remember that a library holding identifies a work without independently validating its predictions.
